SSF to hold Seminar on Punjabi Language



The Sikh Students Federation would be conducting a high level seminar on “Present situation of Punjabi Language” at Arts Auditorium, Punjabi University, Patiala on October 5.

SSF National President Parmjeet Singh Gazi informed media that their organization is cautious regarding various challenges faces by the Punjabi Language and this seminar would help in identification root causes behind them.

Dr. Joga Singh, Professor and Head of Linguistic Anthropology and Punjabi Lexicography will present his paper on use of Punjabi in education. Senior Journalist Jaspal Singh Sidhu, from Delhi, would discuss the role of media in promoting and marginalizing languages, and its' Punjabi context. Dr. Sikandar Singh, who is Assistant Professor of Punjabi at Eternal University, Baru Sahib would discuss the processes of “linguistic genocide” and their application to Punjabi language in contemporary context.

“The seminar is being conducted with permission, and support of, Punjabi University authorities” said Gurpartap Singh, Punjabi University unit president of SSF. “Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jaspal Singh would mark his presence during the seminar” he added.
